Trait Perspective
Theorist: Gordon Allport, Henry Murray, and Raymond Cattell.
Focus: Trait theory is based on peoples patterns and characteristics. All three of the theorists named above studied the traits of a person and how they were shown in action and how many different traits people can have. They try to apply traits to explain how people act and why.
Strengths of theory: A strength of this theory is it studies people on individual bases. Even though there are traits than can be generalized a person could have a different combincation of traits from another but sometimes these traits can be related. It allows for numerous possibilities into a persons actions.
Weakness of theory: A weakness of this theory, in my opinion, is that it is not scientific and not only was it the hardest for me to understand, it was the hardest for me to be able to explain.
Personal example: I suppose a personal example of this theory in my life would be as I work with different students I try to study their traits so I can help connect with them and understand them.
